announcements

9/13/2023 UPDATE: All deleted accounts have been recreated. Other data entered in the last 24 hours is permanently lost and must be re-entered. We continue to apologize profusely for the inconvenience.

9/13/2023: Due to a ... host operator error, some data entered into this site on 09/13/2023 was irrecoverably lost. Please stand by while we restore accounts that were created today and be prepared to reenter your data soon. We profusely apologize for the inconvenience.

2/1/2023: This site now reflects the recent reorganization of Connecticut from 8 counties to 9 regional planning districts. You should resubmit your visits to Connecticut.

8/30/2022: Major rewrite of the slippy maps. URLs have changed and existing bookmarks to this site may no longer work
  • slippy maps now have a data entry mode, providing another way to enter the counties you have visited
  • better support for mobile devices and tables, with a simplified control panel and a marker for your current location (this last feature requires your permission to share your location, and your real-time location will not be tracked by this site. See the updated privacy policy.)
  • some features from OSM driving directions have been ported to Google driving directions, like highlighting new counties on the route, and annotating the turn-by-turn directions with county line crossing information
  • text/printer-friendly annotated turn-by-turn directions

9/23/2021: HTTPS service is now enabled on the mob-rule.com domains. Please report any issues to mobrule@gmail.com.

10/10/2020: Experimental update to the scoreboard page: from time to time we will look through all of the user legends for categories like "Not visited" or "Places I want to visit", and exclude counties in these categories from being included in a user's total on the scoreboard.

4/19/2020: Updates to U.S. county boundaries from the 2020 Census have been incorporated into the site. The main change is that the Valdez-Cordova Census Area of Alaska has been divided into the Chugach and the Copper River Census Areas. Update your visits if you have been to the former Valdez-Cordova Census Area.

12/29/2019: County/Council Area/Sheading boundaries added for the British Isles

10/25/2018: County/municipio boundaries added for the U.S. Territories and Outlying Areas.

welcome

Always ones to let our competitive nature get the better of us, we (that's Bert, Mark, Chris, Marty, and all our like-minded friends) are keeping track of all the U.S. and Canadian counties we've been to.

The rules are simple: you visit a county, then you count it. To visit a county, just cross the plane of the county line. Usually, you visit a county in a car, but it is possible to visit counties by biking, hiking, or even skiing. Generally, we don't count flying over a county, especially flying in a commercial jet airplane (it's just too hard to see the signs that say "Entering Beaufort County").
